Gong and Clari Copilot both record and analyse sales calls, but they serve different buyers: Gong sells the deepest analytics in the category, while Clari Copilot sells solid conversation intelligence bundled into Clari's revenue platform at a lower cost.
Where the two platforms come from
Gong defined conversation intelligence as a category and then expanded into deal intelligence and forecasting. It is the default enterprise choice and priced like one.
Clari Copilot took the opposite route. It began life as Wingman, an independent conversation intelligence tool known for live battlecards. Clari acquired it in 2022 and folded it into a platform whose centre of gravity is forecasting and revenue operations. Copilot is the call-recording arm of that larger machine.
The origins explain the products. Gong behaves like a company whose whole business depends on call analytics being excellent. Copilot behaves like a strong feature of a platform sold to finance-minded revenue leaders, which is exactly what it is. Neither framing is an insult; it just predicts where each product invests.

What does Gong do better?
Depth, in every direction. Search across years of calls, deal warnings grounded in what was said, coaching workflows that large teams actually adopt, and an integration catalogue built for enterprise procurement. If your organisation reviews calls at scale and your forecast meetings run on conversation data, Gong is the safer bet, and our full Gong review covers where even it falls short.
What does Clari Copilot do better?
Three things. It costs less. It takes days rather than weeks to get value from. And it is the only one of the two with any live-call feature at all: battlecards pop up when a tracked keyword (a competitor name, an objection phrase) is spoken, and reps get nudged when they monologue.
If Clari already runs your forecast, Copilot is the path of least resistance, one vendor and one contract instead of two.
How does coaching compare?
Gong's coaching machinery is built for programmes: scorecards with agreed criteria, call libraries organised by scenario, stats that show which manager is actually reviewing calls. It rewards organisations disciplined enough to run that programme every week.
Clari Copilot's coaching is lighter and more rep-facing. The monologue alerts nudge behaviour in the moment, battlecard hit rates show which objections come up, and game-tape style call review covers the basics. A first-time sales manager can run useful coaching from Copilot; a 200-rep enablement team will find it thin.
Questions to ask both vendors
Quotes for these two platforms are hard to compare from websites, so make the vendors do the work:
- What is the all-in annual cost at our seat count, platform fees and onboarding included?
- Which features work during a live call, and what exactly triggers them?
- How does our data come out if we leave, and does the API cover transcripts and media on our plan?
- How long until our first genuinely coached call, with references from a team our size?
- Which CRM objects sync in each direction, and what breaks when our CRM admin renames a field?
The answers separate the platform you are buying from the platform in the demo, and the speed of the pricing answer tells you plenty on its own.
What neither platform does
Neither answers an unscripted question during the call. Copilot's battlecards fire on keywords someone predicted and wrote a card for in advance. The hard question you did not predict, on security, pricing edge cases, or a competitor's new feature, still ends in "let me get back to you."
That job belongs to a different category, real-time assistants that retrieve or generate the actual answer mid-conversation. We explain the distinction in conversation intelligence vs real-time call guidance; Caretta sits in that second category.
Gong or Clari Copilot: which should you choose?
- Choose Gong if you are enterprise or upper mid-market, have a RevOps owner, and the analytics depth will actually be used.
- Choose Clari Copilot if you are mid-market, price-sensitive, or already a Clari customer, and you want useful conversation intelligence without Gong's invoice.
- Choose neither yet if you cannot name who will own the tool. Both platforms reward an owner and punish the lack of one, and the cheaper invoice does not change that.
- Look elsewhere first if your real gap is reps struggling in the moment. Both tools describe the problem after it happens. For the adjacent comparison, see Kaia vs Gong.
One last practical note: run the evaluation with your own calls. Both vendors will demo on clean recordings of confident reps. Upload a messy discovery call from your worst week and see what each platform makes of it, because that is the call your coaching programme actually has to fix.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Clari Copilot the same as Wingman?
- Yes. Clari Copilot began as Wingman, an independent conversation intelligence tool, which Clari acquired in 2022 and folded into its revenue platform. The live battlecards and monologue alerts that defined Wingman carried over into Copilot.
- Is Clari Copilot cheaper than Gong?
- Generally yes. Gong sells per-user licences plus a platform fee on annual contracts and is widely regarded as the premium option. Clari Copilot positions as the lighter, lower-cost choice, especially for teams already paying for Clari's forecasting platform. Get current quotes from both, since neither price list is fully public.
- Does Gong or Clari Copilot help reps during a live call?
- Clari Copilot has some live features: battlecards that trigger on keywords and alerts for long monologues. Gong works after the call. Neither generates an answer to an unscripted question in the moment; triggered battlecards only show content someone wrote in advance.
